Principles of Biology II (BL156)

This class is part of the intro biology sequence and is taught in the spring. Coverage includes animal and plant functional morphology and physiology.

General Ecology (BL222)

General Ecology satisfies a Biology Major core requirement and is required for Environmental Science Majors. The course focuses on the interactions between species and their environments.

Terrestrial Ecology (BL224/L)

This course is taught in alternate fall semesters by Dr. Hickerson. The course is largely field based with a four hour lab coupled with a one hour lecture. Terrestrial field techniques and data collection and presentation are a focus of this course.

Evolution (BL370)

Evolutionary biology is the underlying theme of all of biology. The course covers topics including systematics, evolutionary processes, speciation, and natural selection.

Advanced Ecology (BL444/L)

Advanced Ecology is required for Environmental Science Majors and is an excellent choice for Biology Majors intending to go on to graduate school in evolution or ecology. The course includes paper readings and a semester long group project.

Biology of the Amphibia
(BL421/L/521/L)

Biology of the Amphibia includes weekly lectures and readings in the primary literature on amphibian systematics, ecology, physiology, and behavior. The lab portion of the course includes a multiple day field trip to the Appalachians.

Animal Behavior
BL440/540

Animal Behavior, a new course for Spring 2019, will cover the evolution of behavior including habitat selection and territoriality, mating systems and reproductive behavior, and parental care and altruism. This course has no laboratory and will follow a lecture - discussion format
